Yes, it's really worth the moneyDec 12, 2005
By Esther Schindler Spending a bunch of money on a floor lamp that can be best described as "functional" isn't easy to do. Surely, I can use a less expensive lamp for my needlework?
I've had this lamp for about a year, however, and I must admit that it's worth the money. When you're working with ANYthing involving color (and most crafts do), having accurate light makes a big difference. This really does ease your eyes.
Even without the color issues, though, this lamp is great. The light is directional, so I can work on my sewing while watching TV, without disturbing my husband at the other end of the couch. The adjustable arm makes it easy to point the light where I need it. Plus, since the on/off switch is easy to find (it's on the light head), I don't have to hunt around to turn off the light when the quilting is done.
The lamp is heavy enough that I don't worry about it falling over. Yet, it's light enough that I'm comfortable dragging it from our craft room to the living room.
Definitely recommended.

short lived disappointmentSep 10, 2006
By Gayle Davis This lamp delivered as promised for two months, then the bulb went bad.I got two months of very intermittent use of this lamp bulb. It advertises itself as being good for 10,000 hours. Not hardly. And since replacements cost $17-$29 ( not including shipping), this is not a bargain. I am disappointed in the product and the advertising. If I had known that the bulbs were so short lived, I would have considered this lamp much too expensive

Run Away from Ott LampJun 13, 2006
By D. Gulczynski I bought an Ott lamp for $120.00. It worked for 6 months light usage then the ballast burned out. Thank God it didn't cause a fire. When I unplugged it, it was extremely hot and making hissing and crackling noises. I emailed Ott Lamp's customer service about getting a replacement ballast but they never even bothered to email me back. These Lamps cost to much to for so much junk both in product and service. I am looking for a competitors lamp now instead. I know others make daylight lamps.

Not as good as the task lightJul 14, 2010
By A. Young I've had the Ott task light for many years and thought the floor lamp would be perfect in my sewing room. Wrong! It only lasted 3 months and I could not get any satisfaction in getting it fixed. I wound up replacing with a Verilux and that's been happily working now for 4 years!

A must for crafts.Jan 10, 2011
By Raymond A. Jarman I got this for my wife for Christmas. She crochets in her chair in the living room where we don't have a lot of light. Before, she wasn't able to see when she used dark yarn but now she can see everything. The way the lamp swivels, she can put the base right up against the bottom of the chair and the light still goes over her lap enabling her to see. It lights up her project without getting in the way and she can still see the TV is she wants. She loves it and wouldn't be able to crochet without it. I probably could have gotten the small wattage but oh well. The same light was available at JoAnn's Fabric but was nearly twice the price. My only complaint is that when I'm in the room with her, I get some glare off the light but after 5 minutes or so, I don't pay attention to it. But I didn't get the light for me and she loves it.
