Long battery lifeMar 14, 2006
By JoeB I have several of these lights and have been very happy with them. I've already had several power cuts since purchasing the light and they've worked perfectly without dimming even after power cuts lasting for over three hours.
The light is not terribly bright but it's good enough that you won't be bumping into furniture during a power outage. The light is at its brightest when the power is off. When its used as a nightlight it is a little dimmer but still bright enough to see your way around. The intensity of the light will vary depending on how dark the room is. In the late afternoon when the sun is still outside it will be very dim but will brighten up as the room becomes darker. Although there is a photo sensor on the light a loss of power will turn the light on regardless of how dark or light the room is.
The light stays on a lot longer than the round emergency plug in lights that I've used in the past and it looks a lot better than them. I do think it would look even better without the flashlight part of the light and I would prefer to purchase a version like that if they'd offer it.
When plugging into a double outlet it still leaves room for a small plug to go into the outlet next to it.
Overall I'm happy with the purchase and the only changes I would make would be to make it a little smaller.
Jan 2008: They're still working two years after originally purchasing them.
February 2010: They're still working four years after originally purchasing them but one of them doesn't hold the charge as long as it used to. That's to be expected after such a long time and after so many power outages.

Awesome combination product. Better than Timex version.Oct 25, 2005

This little (inexpensive) item does a lot. First of all it is a rechargable LED flashlight you leave hanging in an outlet so it is always charged. It is an "ok" flashlight.
If you slide the switch to nightlight, it is an automatic nightlight (comes on when the room is dark). In this mode the light will also come on when the power goes out. In a blackout your nightlights will automatically kick on.
This one is better than the nearly identical timex model. The nightlight on this brand is white, instead of amber. Also, the exterior is more plain and looks better on the wall.
Tough to beat this thing for $12.

Good valueJan 02, 2008
By David Knaack I have had two of these lights for about two weeks at the time of this review and am happy with their performance for the price. The light in nightlight mode is mostly directed down toward the floor which makes it easy to see at night. The flashlight mode is bright enough to be useful without being brighter than necessary (impressive, but wasteful of battery power).
The light does not seem to turn off completely during the day. It dims down a bit and covering the light sensor on the front causes the light to get brighter, but it never goes out. It also has a red led on the front that is always on and seems unnecessary.
Other reviewers have stated that the light blocks the second outlet. This is not correct, depending on what you are trying to plug in. The second outlet can be used, but you may not be able to plug in very large power supply type plugs. Normal cords and small plug chargers (like cell phone chargers) fit without an issue.

OK night light, sub-par flashlight, covers both outletsJun 29, 2009
By F. H. Wagner What do you want? This is a nightlight that has battery backups and a low-power flashlight. It's got three settings: all off (but still charging), nightlight mode and flashlight mode. In nightlight mode it's a dim nightlight and if the power goes off it gets brighter. In flashlight mode it's kind of dim. You can pull if off the wall and rummage around in a drawer to find a better flashlight I suppose. But if you're like me that flashlight's batteries will be dead anyway, this one's won't, which is why I bought it.

Wonderful Lighting During power outages/weather emergencies!May 23, 2008
By Freida D. Slater I have 4 of these 3 in 1 Nightlight LED flashlight/emergency backup lights and am so grateful to GreenLite for a superior product! Our power went out during the tornado here in Woodstock,GA on May 20,2008 at 6:30pmEDT and the lights--all 4--stayed on the entire 18 hours until power was restored the next afternoon at 12:30pm! My young sons' slept comfortably with their nightlights and we were able to move safely throughout our home! I recommend these lights to anyone who often have power outages or extreme weather. 3 in 1 Nitelite LED Flashlight with 8 hour battery backup Mrs. Freida D. Slater in Woodstock,GA
