Description:

GE's exclusive thin film design offers dramatic energy savings. Most of the wattage used by standard lamps generates invisible infrared light energy. This is wasted electricity. GE engineers and scientists developed an exclusive infrared reflective coating, Pow-IR-Film, for the inner filament tube that actually uses this wasted energy to help heat the filament and produce more visible, useful light. Now, the GE engineers and scientists have extended this technology even further with Silver Coating technology. GE's silver coating process produces an additional 12% efficiency gain in the lamps which allows GE Lighting to drive additional energy savings, lumens and life which produces even more operating savings for your bottom line.

3GE 50 watt halogen ir floodlightsNov 06, 2011

I received six of these as ordered. They were nicely packed. Out of the six one of the bulbs didn't light. Checking with an ohmmeter revealed that it had an open filament, defective from the factory. I received a prompt replacement with no questions asked. The bulbs are very bright for 50 watts and have a white light. However, I cannot rate these more than three stars because of the ineffective quality control.

Bought these as replacements for the same item that had burned out (after 5 years of daily use). I love the bright, clear light they give off and they work with dimmer switches. Over my kitchen sink I have two recessed lights about 2 feet apart. When one of these 50 watt halogen IR bulbs burned out I had to use a Phillips 60 watt flood in its place. The difference in the amount and quality of light between the two bulbs was dramatic and so obvious since they were side by side. The GE bulb was putting out much more light than the Phillips bulb and doing it with LESS watts! When I dimmed them both to about 50%, the GE side gave plenty of light for kitchen tasks, but the area lit with the Phillips was like a dark gray hole in the kitchen. This is also a great price for these bulbs. When I purchased them in the past at a lighting store they wanted $30 each. Basically, they last a LONG time, they can be dimmed(unlike many CFL), they give off a lot of light for only 50 watts (so you'll probably have them dimmed and they'll use less electricity) and the price is good (same shipping if you order 1 or a dozen.) And did I mention the light is crisp white? No funny orange or blues. Great lights.
