5good purchaseFeb 05, 2012
By J. Wang "Jim"
I have visited my local homedepot for a replacement of my bathroom bulb. They charged $10 each. Since my other bulb is working, I am no in rush. So, I checked here and found this one. With half the price, I got the right item and wish everyone can find this.

Please notice, the 26W will never compatible with 13W and 18W because the base type notch is different.

5Great site for hard to find "G24q-1" bulbs!Jan 07, 2012

I was having trouble finding these weird spiral bulbs with a 4-pin base (G24q-3). Home Depot & Lowes didn't carry the spiral bulbs. so I went online. Several sites had them but, they were expensive, from about $6-$9 each! I needed at least 6 for my kitchen. Four of the six in my kitchen were out. I was not happy with the builder of our home. Why put these bulbs that are hard to find, I thought. Then I decide to check on Amazon.com. Behold! I found the bulbs for under $3 each. I was excited. I didn't have to think too much, I ordered them right away. They arrived in a couple of days. We installed them in our kitchen and now I can see what I am cooking. It is as if my ceiling opened up and the Sun lights my kitchen! Even people that come over say, "wow, it is very bright in here!" We are very happy with our Amazon.com purchase.

3Good light bad mounting and ballastSep 18, 2011
By Ramblin Man
Recently I bought a set of replacement wall dusk to dawn light fixtures for my house. The fixtures were Energy Star rated and came with a new mounting system with an independent ballast and a 4 pin light. The Eiko light fits this new lamp base. These lights are hard to find locally and very expensive when you do. The Eiko lights fit the ballast adapters, where the ballast has a 2 pin GU24 mount on one end and a GX24q-3 4 pin mount for the lamp on the other. The 4 pin GS24-q base should allow the bulb to work with a photocell. Some CFL's have a warning they aren't made to work with lighting controls like dimmers or photocells. This one is supposed to work with a photocell. The price is great.

This mounting system is one of new systems promoted by the tree huggers to reduce energy use and wasted materials when lights go bad. The idea is that a separate ballast will outlast the lamp and save on electronics sent to the dump. The problem is that it's very difficult to tell whether this lamp is seated properly in the ballast. I've broken two lamps already, which puts mercury gas in the air when they fell out and broke. With the old screw base you knew by feel whether the lamp was seated. This lamp can feel like it's seated when it's not. You must be able to see the ballast base, which I can't easily do in the fixture I'm using because it's frosted glass. Plus the lamp opening is narrow, so there's no room to feel whether there's a gap between the lamp and ballast. I have to unscrew the nuts holding the glass enclosure and drop the glass to expose the ballast. According to information from a lighting electronics manufacturer, to get an Energy Star rating on an outdoor fixture using a CFL, you have to have the 2 piece ballast and lamp system. WIth the fixtures I bought, 4 of 5 ballasts, including 1 replacement have failed already within the first two months. Two of them failed overnight. As a test, I bought a self ballasted GY24 2 pin base bulb. So far it's working fine.

This light is fine, but the system overall is a failure for me. I'm going back to a one piece GU24 self ballasted lamp. But if it fails in the near future, I'll replace the fixtures with new cheap screw base sockets.
