This is NOT a true black light!Jun 15, 2011
By Lindsay This bulb is not a true black light. It does not make UV reactive items glow. It's just a regular bulb with dark purple glass. I purchased the 40W version so it should have worked great in theory but even when I held stuff right up to the bulb in complete darkness there was no glow. In addition I was very disappointed in Amazon's shipment packaging! They usually go over the top with protective padding on all of the things they ship me whether fragile or not. However for some strange reason there was zero protective padding in the box that these light bulbs came in so they were just being banged about in the box during the whole shipment process!

Black Light BulbJan 17, 2012
By Paul Pilla This particular black light bulb was not bright enough for our fishktank. I would not recommend it for that reason.

Not very bright...Apr 29, 2011

I bought this bulb for my fish tank because we purchased those new glow fish that glow under black light. This light was very dim (yes, I know it is only 25W). The problem is that a 25W black light is not bright at all. I couldn't see the fish glowing unless they came right to the surface of the tank. We ended up buying a regular black light pre-installed in a fixture that DJs use for not much more money that is way, way bright (through Amazon). It works great. It works so great that my son mounted the light on his wall and now his whole room glows!

InconsistentAug 01, 2011
By Frequent Shopper These bulbs were two different colors which I believe were not even true black lights. They did not penetrate the water in my tank, so I decided to return them. I found out later that black lights will burn your fishes retinas if used, so good thing they didn't work out for me.
