Great Flash lightMar 10, 2008
By Toots I have several of these around the house, esp. in the basement leading to the electrical box. I also put them in every bedroom so the kids have a light and not to get scared. They work great, as soon as the power fails, these lights turn on. Can be removed from the outlet to walk around if need be and last for a good amount of time. Just keep in mind if your looking for this to be a night light this isn't the one for you, they are only good for emergency lighing around the home for when you have a power failure or if you need a quick flash light to use. And when power comes back on they automatically turn off and start charging up again if they are still in the outlet.

do not buyApr 29, 2010

I purchase two units and some night lights by the same manufacturer at Orchard Supply.
Within a week of use, one unit had an electrical buzz and arching smell and the other unit the Auto/off switch quit working.
These units were "Listed" by Underwriters Laboratories and are being sent to them for evaluation.
I was going on vacation and I was glad I removed the arching unit to avoid a possible fire when I was gone.
I have removed all the units by this manufacture from my home.

Power failure lights are a failureMay 26, 2010
By Sam I bought two of the AmerTac 71138CC Power Failure Lights to replace nearly identical ones I bought about 4 years ago. The batteries in the old ones no longer took a charge, but I consider 4 years to be a satisfactory lifespan for a Ni-Cad battery. These two new lights, however, have problems. The switch is faulty on one unit, and both units are made of a plastic with a very sharp, unpleasant odor, and I don't want them inside my house. I've tried airing them out in the sun, but it hasn't helped to eliminate the odor. These units are going into the trash.
Didn't last longDec 08, 2010
By ms The bulb burned out in less than a year...although it was only lit twice in an emergency this year. I purchased a different brand at Target for less $... 2 years before I purchased this one....and it's still working. Back to Target.
Great Power Failure LightMay 06, 2010
By Jannie This light is a must if you anticipate power failure in the future. Since it has a NI-CAD battery, it will last longer than some of the cheaper ones you find in the stores.
